Choosing the best ironing board cover for your UK home: an honest buyer's guide
There is no single best ironing board cover for every home. The right one is the cover that fits your board, has the padding you like, can be cleaned the way you want, and has any heat features you need. This guide sets out those criteria honestly, so you can compare covers from any brand. We make the ROBINAZ cover, and we say where other covers may suit you better.
What matters most when choosing an ironing board cover?
Fit comes first. A cover that does not match your board cannot pull taut, and wrinkles in a loose cover can mark your clothes. Measure the bare board: length from the pointed nose to the flat end, and width at the widest point.
Compare that with the sizes each cover lists. The ROBINAZ cover is listed for UK boards of 125 × 45 cm and 122 × 38 cm. Our UK size chart and measuring template covers other common sizes too.
How much padding do you need?
Look at what the padding is made of, not just whether a cover says it is thick. Some covers are a single layer of fabric; others build in felt, foam or both.
The ROBINAZ cover has four layers — cotton top, felt, foam and non-slip backing — giving roughly 6–7 mm of padding. Read thick padded ironing board covers: what to look for for how to compare constructions.
Can you wash it?
Check the care label before you buy. Some covers go in the washing machine; others must be wiped clean. If you like to wash your cover regularly, a machine-washable one will suit you better.
The ROBINAZ cover is machine washable at 30°C on a gentle cycle and should be air dried, not tumble dried.
Do you want heat or steam features?
Some covers are designed around heat. For example, Vileda states its Total Reflect cover reflects heat and steam using a foil underside; that cover is wiped clean rather than machine washed. A cotton cover such as ROBINAZ does not make a reflective claim.
If reflective ironing matters most to you, a reflective cover may suit you better. See our factual ROBINAZ vs Vileda Total Reflect comparison.
What other brands are there, and what do they suit?
Several brands sell ironing board covers in the UK, and each suits different priorities. Minky, for example, states its Deluxe cover is 100% cotton with a thick felt backing. Vileda states its Total Reflect cover reflects heat and steam and fits boards from 120 to 130 cm long and 38 to 45 cm wide, a wider range of sizes.
We compare them using only each brand's published facts in ROBINAZ vs Minky and ROBINAZ vs Vileda Total Reflect.
Who is the ROBINAZ cover for?
The ROBINAZ cover suits you if your board is 125 × 45 cm or 122 × 38 cm, you want padding built into the cover, and you want to machine wash it. It fits with a nose pocket, an elasticated edge with drawcord and two underboard straps, and is sold and delivered by Amazon UK.
