How to measure your ironing board for a cover (UK sizes)
How do I measure my ironing board for a cover?
Take two measurements of the board itself, not the old cover: the length from the pointed nose to the flat end, and the width across the widest point. Those two numbers tell you which cover size you need.
Remove the old cover first so the padding does not add to your figures. Lay the board flat or set it up at working height, and use a soft tape measure. Run the tape along the centre of the board from the tip of the nose to the square end for the length. For the width, find the widest part of the board, which is usually towards the flat end, and measure straight across it. If the edges are curved, measure the widest span rather than an average.
What are the common UK ironing board sizes?
Most UK household ironing boards fall into one of two sizes: 125 × 45 cm, the standard full-size board, and 122 × 38 cm, a narrower compact board. The ROBINAZ cover is made to fit both.
Write your measurements down and compare them with these two sizes. If your board is close to either one, the ROBINAZ 4-layer ironing board cover will fit, because it combines a nose pocket, an elasticated edge with a drawcord and two adjustable underboard straps that pull the cover taut. Our size guide shows the same two sizes side by side.
What if my board is between sizes?
If your board is between 122 cm and 125 cm long, the standard cover will fit, as the elasticated edge and drawcord take up a small amount of variation. Very small tabletop boards and very wide professional boards need a size-specific cover instead.
A cover is cut a little larger than the board top so its edge can wrap around and tuck underneath. That is why you measure the board and not the cover: the extra fabric is already built into the cover. If your board is noticeably larger or smaller than the two standard sizes, check before you order rather than hoping the elastic will stretch far enough.
How do I check the fit once the cover arrives?
Lay the cover face down, place the board on top, pull the elasticated edge around it, then tighten the drawcord and the two underboard straps until the cover sits flat with no wrinkles.
Creases left in the cover can mark the garment you are ironing, so smooth the surface with your hand before you begin. If the nose pocket sits snugly over the tip and the edge grips the underside all the way round, the cover is the right size.
